Jasper likes to take action. He grows food in his garden with a hyperlocal mindset. He educates and shares his stories at schools and steps in as a food-consultant when a company is open for a change in their food behavior. He creates inclusive artworks for blind people and uses food to ‘visualize’ the story he wants to tell.

Residency Highlights

Jasper’s Experience

1. After a few weeks back in the Netherlands, what do you consider has been the most important and beneficial outcome of your one-month residency in New York?

It was a perfect opportunity to become a 'New Yorker'. Meeting fellow artists, visiting contemporary art and design places and most important, meeting the people behind it. I massively expanded my network and learned to do

things the 'New York Way'. I also enjoyed the time for myself as an artist. I came home with a book full of new ideas and freshness!

2. What were you overall impressions of the residency program?

The residency was perfect for me because it was ver free. I could do whatever I wanted and when I wanted to be connected to someone Wanted Design was fast and helpful to help me out.

3. What was the most exciting and unexpected discover?

I really enjoyed the places and people I met that are not the standard things to see when in New York. I visited the Metropolitan Museum which I really liked but meeting the people behind the forthcoming Powerhouse Arts Brooklyn Organisation

and the building they are situated was one of the best.

4. How do you want to continue to develop your project in the Netherlands and/or around the world?

I would like to gradually expand a market for my work in the Netherlands and maybe use some of my new USA contacts for that work.

5. Would you be interested in coming back and pursuing new collaborations in the US?

Yes, I allready have some new collabs planned in the future when I am coming back.

6. What's next for you besides this specific project, do you have upcoming projects, travels, or exhibits you would like to share?

Yes, lots of them but the most lovely one to mention is that we will showcase the Dinner Sculpture No1 at the New York Design Week at the Javits center for DIFFA By Design.
